What may seem like science fiction is happening right here at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. We are an international leader in translating scientific discovery into clinical therapies.

Our scientists were the first in the world to successfully implant a laboratory-grown organ into humans and today are working to grow more than 22 different organs and tissues in the laboratory. Read about our other “firsts.”

Our goal is to apply the principles of regenerative medicine to repair or replaced diseased tissues and organs. For example, we’re working to:
● Create insulin-producing cells in the laboratory
● Engineer blood vessels for heart bypass surgery
● Apply our technologies to battlefield injuries through a $42.5 million federal grant
