Dr. Cesar C. Santos is originally from the Philippines. Upon completion of his medical education there, he came to New York City where he obtained his Pediatrics residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. He trained in child neurology at Duke University Medical Center. He then proceeded to finish a Neurophysiology Fellowship in the same institution. He was inducted a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Duke University Chapter in 1991. Since July 1992, Dr. Santos has been a faculty member here at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology, Section of Child Neurology with cross appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. He has been the Chief of Child Neurology and the Residency Training Director of Child Neurology since 1997. He was awarded the Neurology Resident Teaching Award in 2002. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Neurology with Special Competence in Child Neurology), American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Neurophysiology), and the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
SYNOPSIS OF AREA OF INTEREST: Clinical antiepileptic drug trials in pediatric epilepsy. Stem cell research and its application to clinical neurology.
DETAILED AREA OF INTEREST: Dr. Santos is involved as a principal investigator or a sub-investigator in numerous Phase III and Phase IV antiepileptic drug trials in pediatric epilepsy. He has been with the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine since January 2006. His current work involves human amniotic fluid-derived stem cell differentiation looking at its potential clinical applications specifically geared towards treatment of Parkinson's disease and demyelinating diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
